THESE ARE OUR NEXT PROJECTS:

PAS | 91 ‘ABSURDITY’: 10 – 16 November 2024 in Berlin, Germany.
An 8-day learning program offering a practical, in-depth dialogue with performance art practice in relation to absurdity as an artistic tool. In a variety of experimental settings, we aim to dive into the ocean of the absurd and explore its structure, its essence, and its potential for the process of creating.

PAS | 92 ‘I DON’T KNOW’: 20 – 27 October 2024 in Nijmegen, the Netherlands
An 8-day learning program offering a practical, in-depth dialogue with performance art practice with a focus theme that places the unknown at the center of our performance-based artistic research.

PAS | 93 ‘IN EVERY EMPTY BOTTLE IS A STORY’: 1 – 8 December 2024 in Hong Kong. An 8-day learning program offering a practical, in-depth dialogue with performance art practice, where we want to gain a closer look into performance making that addresses the huge variety of choices that are available to express our thoughts, artistic concepts and share them with others. We want to open the research in all possible directions to find strategies to convey our stories, our content or our message.

PAS | Online Tutoring with BBB Johannes Deimling
It is designed for artists, collectives or groups developing work or projects in the field of performance art, as well as for students working on their BA and MA thesis. Besides, it can be offered to art teachers, educators and workshop leaders who want to improve their teaching skills and concepts.

WHAT IS PAS?

PAS | Performance Art Studies is an independent art and educational research platform founded by German artist and pedagogue BBB Johannes Deimling. Since 2008, PAS  is offering intensive studies, performance art workshops, courses and masterclasses for anyone interested in this art form.

The goal of PAS is to provide a comprehensive form of learning and teaching in the process of Performance Art practice, theory and philosophy.

PAS understands performance art as a social art practice that is rooted within the visual arts. This viewpoint is the base of how we understand performance art education.

At the center of our work is the artistic research process, an open and dynamic working atmosphere focused on finding out together how performance art can be used as a tool in art and society.

“We don’t know the answers to everything. We are curious to find out together, where seeking answers can bring us. Asking questions might not lead us to answers, but to other questions. Not knowing is a perfect condition for making art.”

PAS | TEAM

BBB Johannes Deimling and Monika Deimling are the core team of PAS supported by various artists and institutions. As visual artists and educators they aim to change the way performance art has been produced and conceptualised over time. Their shared interest is to use the practice, theory and philosophy of performance art to shape an ongoing shifting research process that reaches beyond art to reshape our perceptions and action strategies.

Since its foundation, PAS has developed into a community of artists, researchers and educators who explore performance art as a tool for social action and the activation of individual and collective action to share this knowledge with other fields within and beyond the arts.
